In the vein of conceptual artists such as Anne Collier and Sherrie Levine, I have begun a new project that involves observing the overlooked ways that landscape, power and gender populate our everyday lives in the form of photographic novelty. The proliferation of media that reiterates the accepted model of monumental and sublime landscapes are everywhere, such as this Ansel Adams calendar given to me by my mother for the holidays. Each month I photograph the new spread in the morning light of my kitchen. The inscriptions show my own daily efforts to re-imagine what constitutes a more inclusive and intimate view of the Western landscape.
