In this ongoing series I visit parks or other green spaces closer to where I live in Oakland, CA at night and transform the land into scenes from a fabricated science fiction story. The tension between the curated and jewel-toned lights against current environmental challenges of smoky skies from devastating fires and the all-too-visible measuring device in the Briones Reservoir jut up against our desire for fantastical stories. The trails of light describe the human relationship to exploration that is at the heart of the expeditions of the early landscape photographers during Manifest Destiny. Those photographers were paid to draw settlers to an uninhabited and bountiful land. These photographs highlight the ornamental view of landscape that was codified by early practitioners and is now being altered by our fantasies and realities alike.
Leave No Trace
Leave No Trace, is an ongoing series of wilderness photographs that reveal what cannot be seen during the day. The overlay of human movement as it responds to the topographic irregularities of the land showcase the symbiotic relationship we have with our natural surroundings.
